Martin Parr is a colour photographer who uses intense boldness and “propaganda” within his photographs to capture a viewer’s attention and to create a unique perspective on photography in order to allow his photographs to stand out from others.  Parr mainly displays criticism, seduction and humour throughout his images which are both entertaining and give a somewhat true representation of how we live and present ourselves to others. His photographs aid others in understanding the peculiarities of other cultures and how he envisions them.

Martin Parr’s photographs display colour in a refined but bold way within daily environments. Parr’s photographs show slightly higher levels of saturation that enhances the natural colours within these environments. He usually uses natural lighting so may need to use a slightly higher ISO within most photographs to attempt to still keep the boldness of the colours surrounding his models.

Parr also displays many portrait photographs that differentiate between having the almost the entire frame filled with the model to having the model in the centre of the frame but the other areas being filled with different objects. This therefore leads to each of his photographs having a clear focal point that captures the attention of a viewer. It is also apparent within each of the photographs that Parr uses a wider aperture in order to keep each element of his photograph in focus to give the illusion that he does not only focus on the focal part of the image.

Within each of Parr’s photographs he displays a story that is up to viewers interpretations of what the story within the photograph. This inspired me to create a shoot somewhat alike to Parr’s work that includes high level of saturation within natural lighting that displays a story in some images.
