Mauren Brodbeck is a colour photographer who was born in Geneva. In order to create Brodbeck’s work she photographs everyday environments and fills the outline of buildings with block colour to highlight the impact that the structure has on its surrounding environment which would have been unnoticed if Brodbeck had not filled them with the block colour. This contrasts to its surrounding environment due to the boldness of the colour and the low saturation of the surrounding objects.

Within Brodbeck’s work they use bold colours to contrast to the almost grey-scaled background that surrounds the photographs.  Within each of Brodbeck’s photographs she uses everyday environments, which display minimal colours and brighten the surrounding environment with the addition of colour with the same impact as the object/ building has already.

Brodbeck uses a high-levelled ISO to minimise the colours and saturation of the objects within the frame of the captured image and edits the colour of a building to reduce the details of the object, which increases the brightness of the colours but does not add anything to the overall structure of the scenery. Brodbeck uses certain colours, which completely contrast their environment, rather than using colours that do not make a big enough impact to the image.

Brodbeck has inspired me to create my own work which relates to the way they have highlighted everyday buildings. Within my work I will highlight objects and people and fill them with block colour in order to represent the large impact they have on their surrounding environment that may have gone unnoticed before.
