Harry Callahan

Harry Callahan is an american born is a pioneer for both colour and black and white photography. The photographers method was both technical and exact, and most of his shoots were purely spontaneous. Callahan's photographs often displayed a large amount of light and darkness which displays lines and perfect forms.

He created portrait, landscape and still life photography and enjoyed both broad and specific details to show clear comparisons. However, he created the most of his content by embracing his wife in everyday situations and areas surrounding their home.

Callahan displays high levels of saturation within his photographs to highlight a vintage shadow on his subjects. He tends to use the entirety of his photographic frame to capture his muse in an efficient way that can be subtle yet bold.

I enjoy Callahan's work as he creates a strong representation in his work without making the photograph reliant on his use of colour. He uses linear lines to create a clear and organised photograph but does it in everyday situations to make the photograph seem effortless.

Callahan's work has encouraged me to create work that represents subtle colour with a vintage shadow to it.
